Mars and Rewe turn electric trucking into a real logistics corridor

Electric freight is starting to look less like a pilot project and more like a supply-chain design problem. Electrive reported on July 7 that Mars and Rewe are running a cross-border end-to-end corridor with 47 battery-electric trucks in the Netherlands and Germany.

Why the corridor matters

Many fleet announcements electrify a single depot or short route. This one is more interesting because it links factories, logistics centers, warehouses and stores. Mars products move from production and storage locations to Rewe's logistics network, then onward to more than 300 stores and a delivery-service warehouse.

The companies report more than 2.4 million electric kilometres already logged across their electric-truck activities, with around 750,000 litres of diesel saved and nearly 2,600 tonnes of CO2e avoided on a well-to-wheel basis. Those figures cover earlier sub-routes as well as the broader program.

For passenger-car readers, heavy transport may feel distant. It is not. Electric truck corridors create charging, grid and logistics knowledge that can spill into vans, service fleets and regional delivery networks. They also test the business case under real cost pressure, where diesel volatility and electricity contracts can decide the result.
