Drivetrain
Drivetrain tells you which wheels are driven: front, rear or all-wheel drive. It matters when it changes overtaking, traction, towing confidence or repeated hard driving. EV performance is limited by battery output, inverters, motors, tyres and heat management.
How to compare it
RWD often gives good efficiency and balanced traction; FWD can be cost-effective; AWD improves grip and acceleration but may add weight and energy use.
- Compare output with kerb weight and drivetrain.
- Look for repeatability, not only one launch number.
- Tyres decide how much performance reaches the road.
What changes it
Performance moves with state of charge, battery temperature, motor limits, tyre grip, road surface and whether the car can repeat the output.
- Peak output can drop at low charge or high temperature.
- Grip limits launch performance before motor power does.
- Weight decides how much power is needed to feel quick.
Common trap
AWD does not replace winter tyres. Tyres decide stopping and cornering grip.
- Battery state and temperature can limit power.
- AWD helps launch grip, not braking distance.
