The story

Honda grew from a post-war Japanese engineering company into a global maker of cars, motorcycles and power products. Its electric-car programme has included the compact Honda e, the European e:Ny1, China-market joint-venture EVs and the North American Prologue built around GM Ultium hardware. Honda's next major dedicated-EV step is the 0 Series.

The honest read
Strengths
  • +Established European dealer and service network
  • +Strong safety and driver-assistance engineering
  • +Experience with both battery-electric and fuel-cell vehicles
  • +User-friendly vehicle packaging
Watch-outs
  • โ€“Several EVs are specific to China or North America
  • โ€“Older Honda EVs have modest rapid-charging performance
  • โ€“The EV catalogue uses unrelated platforms and battery ecosystems
  • โ€“China-market charging standards are not directly compatible with Europe
Battery & platform DNA

Honda currently uses several battery ecosystems rather than one universal pack. European models have used Panasonic- and CATL-linked lithium-ion systems, Chinese joint-venture EVs use CATL packs, and the Prologue uses GM Ultium battery hardware. Future North American Honda EVs are tied to a new battery supply chain developed with LG Energy Solution.

EVRadar verdict

Honda's EV catalogue is technically diverse but fragmented. The e:Ny1 is the most relevant established-network choice in Europe, while the Honda e is a distinctive used city car. China-only models and the Prologue require caution because charging, warranty and service support do not transfer cleanly to Europe.
