Two adults, two kids, one dog. We do school runs, weekend trips and one 1,200 km holiday route each summer. Shortlist:
* Kia EV3 Long Range
* Skoda Enyaq 85
* Renault Scenic E-Tech
* Tesla Model Y RWD or Long Range
I care about rear-seat comfort, boot shape and real charging stops more than acceleration.
Enyaq is the calm choice. Not the most exciting, but the cabin and boot are family-proof. Model Y wins on trip planning and charging, but the ride can be too firm for people used to older family cars.
Try the dog crate before signing anything. We rejected one car because the boot litres looked fine but the sloped hatch made the crate sit badly.
For summer holiday routes, the Tesla advantage is not just charging speed. It is fewer decisions when everyone is tired.
The crate test is now on the list. I was treating boot volume as a number, but the opening height and floor shape are probably more important for us.
