Small EVs deserve more attention than another 2.4 tonne SUV launch

Every week there is another large electric SUV launch, but the cars that would actually reduce fuel use in cities are compact hatchbacks and small crossovers.

I would love EVRadar to track small EVs more aggressively: boot size, rear-seat access, AC charging speed and winter range. These matter more to normal households than 0-100 km/h.

Agree. The problem is margin. Manufacturers keep pushing expensive trims because batteries are still a big cost.

A 45-55 kWh practical hatch with efficient heating and 100 kW charging would be enough for many people, but the market keeps pretending everyone needs 90 kWh.

Small cars also reveal packaging skill. If a brand can make a compact EV comfortable without wasting battery, that tells me more than a luxury SUV with unlimited space to hide the compromises.
